I've started looking into photographs from shoots that inspire me and relate well to the sort of look I want to start aiming my shoot to look like.
In these two images I really like the doll type feel. I think the overall feeling is very wintry which the brightness of her hair brightens up. I like the use of the chair in an outdoors setting. I think for this shoot I am defiantly aiming more towards taking the inside out. I love how indoor objects are incorporated outside to make it look as one. It gives that whole childhood playing and make believe vibe. I've found it very hard to come across an example of a shoot with boys and a girl in the style I want. This is clear that it is not very often done. I did however, find this shoot on the style of The Wizard of Oz. I really like the playfulness of the characters the models are conveying. This is something I would defiantly like to bring forward.
I like how this shoot simply captures a moment, making the clothes the main focus but also giving a story behind the shoot. It goes back to Paul Harnetts tutorial and how simplifying something can be so much more. I've also looked into recent fashion spreads that incorporate the feel I want to capture.
This spread from Harper's Bazaar Australia by Derek Henderson gives the feeling of inside and out. I love the styling and the hair, I think it has a quirky edge to it whilst still managing to be commercial. The peg necklace breaks up the styling of what would else wise be a very normal fashion image. It shows how important styling is when creating an overall feel and look. I love the darkness to this shoot from Italian Marie Claire. I think it has a dark but beautiful look which manages to make spooky look inspirational. The relaxed glamour gives a believable look in what would otherwise be a very propped up shoot. I like the hint towards a historical reference within this shoot for Spanish Vogue by Mark Seliger. I think the clothing stands out well because of the simple location. It looks like the model is dressing up at being rich when in fact she has very little money. This shows how a story can be incorporated within a shoot to make it so much stronger. I love the colourfulness of this shoot for Vixen magazine by Elias Wessel. I think it links well to the fairy-tale theme and I get the feeling of a modern Snow White. I love the use of colour particularly as it brightens up the whole image and makes the model the main focus. I think the shot behind the glass illuminates this fact of how colour can work within a shoot. By keeping a constant thread with the people I am working with means that we are all able to clearly see what I am envisioning. It also means that the sharing of ideas is more organic and easier for all of us to understand the actual concept of the shoot.
I'm much better at explaining myself through pictures and diagrams then writing as you can clearly see from my Childhood Drawings.

Hiya
So after a lot of tutorials and discussions with my tutors I think I have the base of an idea to go with to do my shoot, if you guys are all still up for it?
It's going on from my personal philosophy that we had to do for the summer project and it looking at things influenced from my childhood.
Here's the link to the philosophy http://toriesmith.blogspot.com/2010/10/my-philosophy.html
I've also started up a blog http://vsmpp.blogspot.com/ that will be updated this weekend so if you want to see my more of my ideas and what I'm actually thinking it should be on there as soon as.
So I've got a few ideas at the moment.
I want to play around with the idea of taking the inside out, like making a den like you used to when you were kids.
I want to use two male models and a female model.
Clothes wise I'm thinking of dressing the girl as very young and doll-like with the guys wearing clothes from a men's boutique I worked at. I'm thinking the patterned Christmas jumpers and jeans.
I really want to play on the idea of fancy dress so may get some illustrators to make some masks for me. I'm kinda thinking as having the guys play almost creepy characters that you quite often find in fairy tales. A bit like the characters out of Pans Labyrinth
I quite like this sort of weird image Photography - I'm thinking quite enchanted but strong. I don't really want whimsical as I want it to have a tough playfulness about it, if you understand what I mean?
I've been told to try and aim this for a live project so was thinking of submitting it to a magazine (still not sure which one) but if we can get published out of it, it will obviously be really beneficial for all of us!
Is the 11th still good for you all?
Here's a few images that I like the feel of.
Hope your still interested :)
