Childhood Photographs

Looking back at my childhood, the photographs have really helped to bring back memories. My family is really close and my childhood was full of camping and beach trips, despite not having much money my parents made sure we would have time to spend together on holidays to the New Forest and Cornwall.
I'm the eldest of four and were all very close in age by roughly 18 months, this meant that growing up together we did pretty much everything together.

We would constantly be dressing up, making dens and painting. We had an extensive fancy dress box which is probably where my styling habits originate from. I was very creative when it came to making costumes and putting looks together.

As a family we were very sociable with a huge network of friends. The photo below is from one of my brothers birthday parties in Stanmer Park.

This photo was taken when I was about 10 on one of the many camping trips we did with friends. All the kids had been asked to stand in age order. In total this was only three families together but we were all very big families and this is probably what united us together.

I picked out this picture from one of our camping trips in the New Forest. This jumper was one of my favourites so I would like to bring this in to my styling as it is also very current in fashion trends at the moment.

I think one of the main things that I remember from being a child was the bright orange Volkswagen we had. Although these vans are very fashionable at the moment, at the time we had it only out of necessity and because it was a cheaper car to run. People carriers hadn't been invented and this was the only thing that would fit us all in together as a family as well as enabling us to go on camping holidays together.

Me and my brother Luke would sleep in hammocks that were in the pop up tent, whilst my parents and younger brother and sister would sleep in a tent. The back of the van had a sink and an oven from what I can remember.
This photo shows the inside of the van. My brothers and sister would sit on the back three seats and my mum would sit facing them. That meant as the eldest I got to sit in the front next to my dad driving the car. I loved being in the front as I felt like a grown up. I remember the steering wheel being huge!

This photo was taken before my youngest brother was born which meant all the children could be strapped in the back seats.

A lot of the photo's that were taken actually have writing on the back which my mum did, saying when and where the photo was taken. This picture was apparently taken in Christchurch. I therefore think it may be interesting to go back to Christchurch to try and find where the photo was taken. I love my hat in this picture!

Another thing from my childhood which I loved was my red bike. This bike my dad picked up from a charity shop and painted for my birthday. It was very sturdy which was probably a good thing as I remember falling off it countless amounts of time with my daredevil antics.

I think for my photo-shoot I would like to incorporate a red bike somehow as this was a huge memory for me.
My red bike like many of my things were inherited by my younger siblings when I became too big for them. Here you can see my sister learning to ride my bike.

This photo was taken of my dad's friend in a field. I would love to do something similar maybe with a pair of heels but I think it will be the wrong time of year to have a field full of crops.

My dad would quite often make us a tree swing when we went camping. I love my outfit in the picture above and below. Dungarees were my favourite clothing when I was younger as it meant I could climb trees without them falling down or anyone seeing up my skirt. I like the way my jellies (shoes) match my t-shirt, very colour co-ordinated!

This photo was taken of me and my sister Emily on a Cornish beach. I remember this swimsuit so well, it used to have frills on the side and I loved it. Again there is a co-ordinating hairband to match.
This photo was also taken on a Cornish beach of some of the friends who would holiday with us. I remember the wind shields as they were vital to have a complete day the beach. We would often stay there all day, swimming, building sandcastles, rock pooling, playing games such as rounders and having lunch.

This photo shows me on the left wearing my typical attire of a dungaree type outfit with my favourite pink jellie shoes.
I love the print on these shorts. Something my mum did to save money was make a lot of our clothing so I wouldn't be surprised if these were made by her. I have no idea how she found the time to look after four young kids, work and make things for us. She is defiantly wonder woman!

Again me, on a Cornish beach wearing dungarees (this time a striped, nautical set) and knee high socks with my matching red coat and wellies.

Very red riding hood looking!
