After looking into my childhood, I decided to go on a visit to Christchurch as this was a place we quite often visited on a rainy day when we couldn't go for a bike ride or the beach.
Walking around Christchurch I didn't remember much. However this didn't mean there wasn't any inspiration.
This photo is taken of the Ducking Stool - a chair which was used to submerge wrongdoers into the water as a form of punishment.
Whilst looking at the chair we noticed that it had writing inscribed on it. We therefore decided to do a rubbing (see scrapbook) to make it more clear.
This is what the inscription said:
' of members ye longe is worst or best an yll longe oft doeth breed unrest. Centennial 1886'
Looking at the date of this I was very confused as this was a Victorian date, however the work Centennial means 100 years after. This is very typical Victorian - making a museum of an object or placing something similar of that there, whether there actually was a ducking stool there I am not sure but the place defiantly had an eerie feel to it.
I think this is also a set up of some stocks and obviously not the real thing. It's quite interesting as it shows a bit about the history of the town of Christchurch.
This is a photo of the ruins of the Norman tower. I think this picture is particularly interesting as it is where I had my photo taken with my mum and brothers and sisters almost 18 years ago.
I really like history and there's something about old buildings that really inspire me. I love to imagine what it was once like. I think this probably comes from being taken to places like Christchurch as a child.
I think graveyards are beautiful. I think this because most of the people buried there were loved by someone. The gravestones justify this by the inscriptions written on them. The Priory Church at Christchurch had a beautiful graveyard. I would love to do a shoot in a graveyard but I don't think it would be very respectful of the people laid to rest.
I love the tunnel created by these trees. There's something about tunnels of trees that I've always liked. I love how the light will still shine through in certain areas.
I think location wise a ruin of a castle would look beautiful. It defiantly has the right feel to what I'm looking towards creating and also linking into my love of history. My only concern is that it could look too staged if I'm using mask, props and heavy styling.
